[Well, this guy (or gal as the case may be) is now choosing to show his (her) charming face on the network for the first time. As a girl Joshua doesn't actually look all that different. The features are a little finer, maybe, the lashes a little longer, but the giggle is no less obnoxious.

Gosh... you know, I don't see how this is so bad. I'm not sure I'd mind staying this way longer, in fact. [A dainty eyelash-flutter directed towards the video feed.] For one thing, girls get much nicer clothes, and they're allowed to like them much more. It's so hard to be a fashionista when you're expected to be getting in fights and grubbing around in the mud.

Too bad there's no place around here to go shopping.

A normal world with cars and technology and stuff, the year's 2010. Oh, and most people don't believe in magic, but there's a secret war between Morganian and Merlinean sorcerers going on. I'm Morganian.

Morganians worship Morgana le Fay and want to bring her back and raise her undead armies. Merlineans worship Merlin and guard the grimhold and keep Morganians from raising her from the dead.

I don't know. I never thought that far in advance.

Well, I already knew that was why. So which are you?

Inmate. [As if he doesn't care a bit, though of course he does. An inmate, him? But whatever.] Is there a time limit you're going to run up against at some point? Where they give up on you and send you home, perhaps?

No. In theory, you could be here forever. Don't think I will be, though.

What a drag. Some of us have things to do. I don't suppose you can appeal?

Not really. You can relax, though. You're dead. I don't think anyone back in your world is going to have high expectations on how much your corpse gets done.

That's quite an assumption! Maybe the dead have a lot to do.

Where I'm from, they typically just decompose.

I take it you're not a believer?

That's not really relevant. I mean, you might believe in an afterlife, and the Barge proves there is one, but in the real world, people don't expect people to still show up to work and do whatever they expected of them before death once they die regardless of what they believe. So relax, enjoy the fact that no one will blame you for not doing anything you were supposed to do back home.

It sounds like you're making a lot of assumptions about how the afterlife works too! What if you died and immediately got put on guardian angel duty, hmmm? You might be leaving somebody out in the cold, sad and angel-less, facing all the trials of the world on their own.

Well, it's their fault for putting someone on duty when they didn't even end up in that afterlife, isn't it?

Not really! What if somebody was there already, hmm? What if they'd gotten complacent after it all went according to plan ten thousand times, and this Barge threw a wrench in the gears? Some folks could be in trouble.

Then it's their fault for getting complacent. And for making plans to have an evil Morganian be a guardian angel in the first place.
